Anne Arundel Police Chief Larry Tolliver Retires. Embattled Anne Arundel County police Chief Larry Tolliver announced his retirement Tuesday. The announcement comes on the heels of an inquiry into whether the chief used homophobic slurs and whether some officers experienced retaliation for testifying against former County Executive John Leopold, who was convicted in March of misconduct.
Anne Arundel Council Approves Stun Gun Bill. Those living in Anne Arundel County will soon be able to carry a stun gun or TASER. County Councilman Derek Fink told 11 News that the council passed his stun gun carry bill by a 4-3 vote on Monday night. Anyone 18 or older who passes a background check will be able carry the devices for self-protection starting June 20. If the weapons are improperly used, violators could get up to three years in jail and up to a $3,000 fine.
Man Arrested After Attempted I-Hop Armed Robbery. Police in Anne Arundel County have arrested a man in an armed restaurant holdup. Leroy Boffen, 20, is charged with attempted robbery and related offenses after, police said, he brought a gun to the IHOP on Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, forcing an employee into a bathroom at about 5:15 p.m. Monday.
Woman Dies, Officer In Custody After Standoff In Baltimore. Police said an off-duty officer who they believe shot a woman during a domestic squabble and then started a standoff with his co-workers in west Baltimore on Tuesday has been arrested, but the woman who was shot has died. The incident started at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of North Parrish Street when police said officer James Smith, who is a 20-year veteran of the department, got into a fight with the unidentified woman, shot her and then barricade himself inside a home.
