Police Make Drug Arrests During Traffic StopAnne Arundel County police said they made two drug-related arrests in separate traffic stops in Glen Burnie. Police said an officer was conducting a routine traffic stop in the area of Ritchie Highway and Dover Road around 1:14 a.m. Wednesday when the officer developed probable cause to search the car.

3 Anne Arundel Students Awarded Gates Scholarships.  Three Anne Arundel County students have won a prestigious scholarship awarded to only 1,000 students nationwide. The Gates Millennium Scholarship, supported by philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates, helps high-performing low-income students pay for a college education. It’s a 16-year-old scholarship program that puts up more than $1 billion to help build the leaders of tomorrow.

Man Catches Purse Snatcher Who Assaulted His Wife. Police said a man chased down and caught one of two robbers who assaulted his wife and took off with her purse in Brooklyn Park. Officers were called to the area of Morgan Road and Alley 88 for a report of an assault in progress around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday. Police said a man told them he saw his 40-year-old wife on the ground after being approached and punched by two women.

BGE Requests Another Rate Increase. For the second time in a few months, Baltimore Gas and Electric plans to make a request to the state to increase rates. The Maryland Public Service Commission in February partly approved BGE’s request that it made shortly after the destructive derecho in June. That storm caused monthly electricity bills to go up by $3.33 and gas bills to go up by $2.70.
