Edgewater Boat Explosion Injures 6 Including 2 Children

Breaking News

UPDATE: From the fire department, there are now 7 victims. 2 pediatric patients were flown out, 2 pediatric patients were taken by ground ambulance, and 3 adults were taken by ground.

UPDATE:  We have heard that there are 6 injuries reported. 9 people were onboard;  3 adults and 6 children.

Four people are on their way to burn centers after an explosion occurred on their boat at the Oak Grove Marina on Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.  Fire and EMS crews were dispatched right around noon this afternoon.

Initial reports indicate that there was no fire, which indicates it may have been a flash explosion due to a build up of gasoline vapors in the bilge.

Two 9-year old children were flown via MSP helicopter with third degree burns and the two adults were taken by ground ambulance to regional burn centers.

Details are still coming in and we will have photos and more information shortly.
