With a 53-year history of helping young stars nurture their talents, Children’s Theatre of Annapolis cordially invites parents, alumni and arts supporters to its annual gala — this year themed “Broadway Bound” — at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11.
The yearly celebration offers guests the chance to have fun with the CTA family while supporting the company’s mission of bringing excellence in youth theatre education and production to the greater Annapolis community. On a red carpet surrounded by Broadway production posters, guests can place their bids on irresistible prizes in live and silent auctions, or move to the dance floor where a DJ will provide invigorating sounds to keep the energy alive. Drinks and dinner for the evening include wine, beer, signature cocktails, an assortment of appetizers and a buffet dinner.
Providing live entertainment, the 16 members of CTA’s brand-new traveling troupe Second Stage will sing a mix of classic and contemporary stage favorites, including “Lullaby of Broadway,” “No Day but Today,” “I Know It’s Today,” “Skid Row,” and “For Good.” Although the new performance group has made a few successful appearances at events around town, this marks the ensemble’s official debut with the CTA family.
The annual CTA gala is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the organization, which affects more than 7,500 families in the Chesapeake region each year. Proceeds from ticket sales and auctions are vital in its mission as it develops new programming for young thespians in the central Maryland area.
“The gala is an occasion for arts supports and arts consumers to come together in a social setting to show their support and be acknowledged for their support,” says Executive Director Kathy Swekel. “Without it, CTA’s programming would be reduced and ticket pricing and workshop tuitions would have to be increased.”
Tickets for the gala are $75 ($30 tax-deductible) and are available by calling 410-757-2281 or visiting www.cta.ticketleap.com. For more information about the gala, contact CTA Public Relations at [email protected].
