Bomb Threat At Old Mill High School

UPDATE:  Police have arrested a suspect in this incident. From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On May 16, 2013, at approximately 8:46 a.m. the School Resource Officer assigned to Old Mill High School received information from school officials that an individual posted information on social media indicating that he was planning to plant bombs in the wooded area outside of the Old Mill School Complex located in the 600 block of Patriot Lane in Millersville, Maryland.

School officials received this information from a current student, who reported viewing the information the suspect posted online, which reported that the suspect was going to target a “Relay for Life” cancer walk event scheduled to take place on the evening of May 17, 2013, at the school complex. After receiving this information, several officers and a K-9 responded and scanned the perimeter of the school complex, which was ultimately deemed to be safe. Further investigation led detectives to the identity of the suspect, who was located at his home.

Detectives conducted a search of the residence and no evidence of any bomb making material was located; however, further interviews with the suspect confirmed that the suspect made the online postings out of frustration for personal reasons. He was arrested and charged with Disturb School Operations, Threat to Detonate a Destructive Device and False Statement in Reference to a Destructive Device.

Suspect: Matthew Permenter, 18, of  Jack Place, Baltimore, Md

A student at Old Mill High School relayed information found online about a potential bomb threat.  According to school officials who sent home a letter this afternoon in addition to a robo-call this morning, there was no specific threat to the school and it was reported to be located on the property surrounding the school.

The school did not evacuate, but did not allow students outside while the police were investigating the threat.
