Baysox Outduel Thunder

BaysoxBehind a strong pitching performance from both Kevin Gausman and Jason Gurka, the Bowie Baysox (18-20) beat the Trenton Thunder (21-20) for their fourth straight win, 2-1 on Friday night.

Gausman went the first six innings and allowed just one run on four hits with a career high 10 strikeouts and just one walk.  He retired the final five batters that he faced and picked up his second win of the season.

Jason Gurka then went the final three innings and did not allow a base runner while striking out four.  He picked up his fourth straight save and has now gone 20.1 innings without allowing a run.

The Thunder struck first in the bottom of the second inning.  Slade Heathcott hit a one out triple and then Ali Castillo knocked him in with an RBI groundout.

Caleb Joseph evened up the game in the fourth inning with a solo home run, his seventh of the season to make the score 1-1.

The Baysox took the lead in the sixth inning.  Ty Kelly and Niuman Romero drew back to back walks to start the frame.  Then with two outs, Brandon Waring lined a ball to the right side that glanced off the glove of the second baseman, went into right field and on the play Kelly scored to give the Baysox a 2-1 lead.

Danny Burawa got the loss going 1.1 innings and allowing the one unearned run on no hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
