Bello Machre is honored to announce that the unique 811 – Call Before You Dig motorcycle, constructed by Paul Teutel on Discovery Channel’s American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior will be at Every Step Counts Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Anne Arundel Community College. This will help to raise awareness for Bello Machre and the hundreds of people with developmental disabilities who depend upon us each and every day.”
The 811 – Call Before You Dig motorcycle is owned by our partners and friends at One Call Concepts, Inc. (OCC). Dave Catrambone, Chief Operations Officer of OCC and member of the Bello Machre Board of Directors, said, “The 811 Bike usually draws a huge crowd and what better place to have it than at Bello Machre’s Every Step Counts.”
The newest icon for preventing damage to buried lines, the 811 Bike, is hitting the road for its 2013 US tour. Millions watched the construction of the 811 Bike by Paul Teutel Jr. in February 2012 on the Discovery Channel’s American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior. A half-million more saw the 811 Bike live and in person as it crisscrossed America in 2012, reminding the public of the importance of calling 811 prior to digging.
In May 2007, 811 was inaugurated as the FCC-designated national “N-11” number created to eliminate confusion of multiple “Call Before You Dig” numbers across the country. Several excavation-related “tools of the trade” have been incorporated into the 811 Bike’s construction to stress the importance of calling 811 prior to any digging. Sharp-eyed observers will see pick-ax heads, backhoe buckets, a shovel blade and handle and more.
“We wanted to connect with people in a new and different way,” says Tom Hoff, President and CEO of One Call Concepts, Inc., which sponsored the creation of the 811 Bike. “Every time the 811 Bike is exhibited, we hear so many comments from people who are hearing the message of damage prevention for the first time and taking it to heart that we know we’re succeeding. In spite of that, we’ve still got more work to do. While the advent of 811 has made it easier than ever for the public to reach their local One Call Center, excavation activity is still the leading cause of damage to America’s buried infrastructure.”

Every Step Counts, scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 2013, is fun for the whole family with a moon bounce, a clown, face painting, music, and complimentary food and beverages. The event also promotes education and awareness about people with developmental disabilities who live and work within the community. Every Step Counts will assemble hundreds of walkers and bikers at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Maryland, with a goal to raise over $125,000.
Each walker and biker will get people to sponsor their Every Step. Participants raise money by having friends, family, and business associates sponsor them to walk or ride. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. at Anne Arundel Community College. For more
