Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown, a member of Governor Martin O’Malley’s team for the past seven years, veteran of the Iraq war and former Prince George’s County delegate and majority whip of the Maryland House of Delegates, will give the commencement address at Anne Arundel Community College’s 51st Commencement at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the commencement tent on the Athletic Practice Field on the Arnold campus.

Lt. Gov. Brown has been tapped by Gov. Martin O’Malley to lead state efforts on several major initiatives, including expansion of health coverage to hundreds of thousands of Marylanders and state actions to implement President Obama’s health care reform law.  He also is chair of the governor’s subcabinet on military base realignment and closure procedures (BRAC), which prepared Maryland for new BRAC-related jobs.  As a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, Lt. Gov. Brown has worked to improve benefits and services for Maryland’s veterans.  Other issues he champions include increasing access to higher education, protecting victims of domestic violence, and encouraging and recruiting families to become foster or adoptive parents.

Lt. Gov. Brown is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

AACC’s commencement ceremony culminates a month of activities celebrating successes of AACC students.  All events are by invitation only and take place on AACC’s Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. These events include:
