On Friday, May 10, the Chesapeake Bay Trust will host its 15th Annual Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront hotel. This event is expected to bring together more than 350 Chesapeake Bay partners and friends who are committed to improving the Chesapeake Bay and local communities. Thanks to the support of so many sponsoring businesses and individuals, the Trust expects to raise more than $85,000 through this event to fund restoration projects and educational programs throughout the Bay watershed. “Our Annual Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration is a chance for the Trust to not only raise needed funding to improve the local waterways and other natural resources of Maryland but to also showcase the incredible work that our grantees perform in their communities each and every day,” said Jana Davis, executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Trust. “And it truly is one of the best parties of the year!”
The 15th Annual Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration will take place on Friday, May 10, from 7-10 pm at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront hotel. Tickets cost $100 and include open bar, exceptional food with pasta and carving stations, fresh shucked oysters, live casino games, a DJ and dancing, and an outstanding Silent Auction. Proceeds from the event fully benefit the Chesapeake Bay Trust, 4-star nonprofit organization that administers grants to improve the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through environmental education, community outreach and Bay restoration.
“More than 50 area businesses have sponsored this year’s Treasure the Chesapeake Celebration and we are truly grateful for their support,” said W. We simply would not be able to fund so many worthwhile projects and programs that benefit the Chesapeake Bay and our local waters without their support.”
Since 1985, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has awarded more than $50 million in grants to organizations, schools, and community groups to restore Maryland’s shorelines, educate schoolchildren about the environment, green local neighborhoods and clean-up rivers and streams. In 2012, the Trust awarded 322 grants totaling $5.8 million that planted 180,000 trees, restored 44 across of streamside buffers and wetlands, created 6,300 linear feet of living shoreline and removed 70 tons of trash.
The Trust is supported by the sale of the Maryland Treasure the Chesapeake license plate, donations to the Chesapeake Bay and Endangered Species Fund on the Maryland State income tax form, donations from individuals and corporations, and partnerships with private foundations and federal and state agencies. Fully 90 percent of the Trust’s expenditures are directed to its Chesapeake Bay restoration and education programs.
