A three alarm fire erupted in the Watergate apartment complex on Americana Drive in Annapolis around 10:30 AM this morning.
According to Battalion Chief John Menassa, the fire started in a fifth floor common-area laundry room and quickly spread to the ceiling above it. Crews were able to stop the spread relatively quickly.
When crews arrived on the scene the fire had already gone through the roof. There were no reported injuries and everybody was evacuated safely. There was no initial estimate on damage other than to say that the laundry room was pretty well destroyed.
The fire was put under control at 11:15 AM and called out 18 pieces of equipment and more than 70 firefighters from Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, and Prince George’s County.
Americana Drive is currently shut down at Norman Avenue. Access to the complex is restricted and residents and visitors should expect to park in the Eastport shopping center and walk to their ultimate destination.
