The Annapolis Wine Expo, Sat., May 11, 2013

The Annapolis Wine Expo (formerly The Annapolis Food and Wine Festival) is being held indoors at the Lawrence Room in two sessions, 12–2:30 pm and 3:30-6 pm on Sat., May 11, 2013 at the Navy Stadium in Annapolis. A variety of volunteers will be needed to help with each session. Each volunteer will receive: an admission ticket to the event; free on-site parking; a souvenir wine or beer glass; bottled water, and a special gift. Anne Arundel County Public Library

Anne Arundel County Public Library seeks a volunteer (16 or up) who is comfortable using a PC to assist with scanning a large archive of historical library photographs and clippings, uploading these images to Flickr, and entering any data written on photographs to the file. Accuracy and careful handling of delicate items are important, as is the ability to work independently.  All work will take place at Library Headquarters at 5 Harry S. Truman Pkwy, Annapolis, MD 20401. Volunteer hours are flexible during Library Headquarters’ open hours (Mon-Fri 8:00 am-4:30 pm). Training on using the equipment will be provided. Historic London Town and Gardens

This Edgewater historic site seeks persons interested in history and/or horticulture to become docents, historic interpreters and gardeners at this 17th-18th century tobacco port. Volunteers give site tours, house tours or demonstrate colonial crafts and daily life. They may work in historic or ornamental gardens. ·        9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Jun. 24-26 & Jul. 15-19, 2013, Colonial Adventures Summer Camps: Colonial Adventures offers children who have completed 1st-6th grades the opportunity to spend part of their summer experiencing colonial life in a hands-on, experience-based environment. Children will live the colonial life dressing in period clothing, hearth cooking their own lunch, learning colonial crafts (including making leather journals, writing with quill pens and more), and playing colonial games and throwing tomahawks. Ferndale United Methodist Church

Ferndale United Methodist Church,117 Ferndale Road, Glen Burnie MD 21061 will be hosting a flea market from 8 AM–2PM, Saturday, April 13, 2013. Table fees are $15 per table although there is currently a waiting list. Table fee money will go towards the church’s outreach for the homeless providing a weekly shower and hot meal to men and women who are homeless. In addition to the weekly shower and meal, Ferndale United Methodist participates in a rotating shelter for up to 30 men and women during the winter, and opened an emergency shelter during Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. Sellers and patrons are kindly asked to bring a non-perishable food donation and/or an article of clothing for homeless adult men and women. Lost Towns Project of Anne Arundel County/AA Co. Trust for Preservation

North County High School, Mock Job Interviews April 15–22, 2013

North County High School in Glen Burnie is looking for volunteers to conduct mock interviews with 11th graders. Interview questions will be provided, and volunteers just have to ask the questions and assess how well the interviewees do. OHLA (Organization of Hispanics/Latin Americans of Anne Arundel County)

OHLA provides support, education and relief services to immigrant Hispanic-American families. Volunteers serve as Outreach Coordinators bridging existing gaps in areas such as health, jobs and other services needed by the community.  Bi-lingual volunteers staff the Annapolis office located in the Community Resource Center at 80 West St., and assist Hispanic constituents with many issues ranging from immigration to interpreter services, training provided. There is a pressing need for volunteers to help Legal Counsel on Thurs. mornings with tax preparation. More volunteers are also needed for several hours each week at both the Annapolis Office and at the Community Resource Center at the District Court in Glen Burnie. Severna Park Community Center (SPCC)

Volunteer opportunities include helping on committees, help with benefit events (Gala, Golf Tournament, etc.), help support small projects held at the Center, help in writing grants to improve the Center, and much more. The Helen Avalynne Tawes Garden & Shop

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of gardening tasks including planting, watering, weeding, and mulching.  Tour guides are needed, particularly in April & May, to assist the teacher/naturalist with large groups; year round programs need chaperons for field trips as well as assistants for nature programs. Shopkeepers are needed for 2-hour shifts on a weekly or twice-monthly basis at the garden’s gift shop at MD Department of Natural Resources, Tawes Building, Rowe Blvd. and Taylor Ave. in Annapolis.
