Maryland Therapeutic Riding will host its 4th Annual Derby Day on the farm in Crownsville on Saturday, May 4, 2012 from 5pm to 10pm.  This signature fundraiser is quickly becoming known as the most fun while doing the most good in the Annapolis area.  This hip event raises funds to support MTR’s mission to improve quality of life by helping individuals conquer physical, developmental, and emotional health challenges through human and horse interaction.

There’s a buzz in the air about Derby Day as many attendees claim it as their Rite of Spring ritual.  This fun-filled event consists of a live showing of the Kentucky Derby, customized races throughout the evening, mock betting, a hat contest, live and silent auctions, a buffet dinner, drinks and mint juleps, of course.  With a guest appearance by one of MTR’s horses, it’s as if you are in the grandstands!

While it may not be the rush of Churchill Downs, the joy and improvement experienced by MTR’s riders every day is something to marvel.  MTR has grown into an award-winning therapeutic riding center and has been premier certified since 2000.  MTR stands out as arguably one of the best programs in the country with 50% of its instructors Advanced Certified and in the top 6% of instructors nationwide.

With the help of more than 150 volunteers each week, MTR works to improve the physical health and well-being of nearly 150 children and adults annually.  MTR currently provides nearly 3,500 riding hours annually for those with disabilities ranging from Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis as well as veterans and wounded service personnel dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Depression, Anxiety, and Amputation.

Derby Day is a wonderfully fun way to come together to help those in the community who are so deserving.  Proceeds from the evening’s festivities will provide life-changing experiences that empower the mind, strengthen the body and lift the human spirit.  Sponsors to date include Reliable Contracting, Decker Global Wealth Group, Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis, M&T Bank, Strategic Wealth Management Group, Presidio and John and Tia Carson.

Sponsorship opportunities range from $1,500 to $10,000 and reservations are $125 per person.  For more information on sponsor benefits, Derby Day reservations, or auction item donations please visit www.HorsesThatHeal.org or call 410-923-6800.  Maryland Therapeutic Riding is located at 1141 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD and is a registered 501(c)3.
