Free Workshops: Living With Chronic Conditions, Diabetes

countysealAnne Arundel County is presenting two free workshops for people who are living with either a chronic condition or diabetes.

Chronic Conditions Class

Living Well with Chronic Conditions” is a free, six week class sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.  Classes will be held from 1 – 3:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, April 17 in the Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Health Sciences Pavilion, 2000 Medical Parkway.  Classes will also be held from 1 – 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday, April 11 at the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.

This self-management workshop is for adults with any chronic condition.  A chronic condition can be defined by high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, fibromyalgia, arthritis or any other medical condition that can cause suffering and loss over an extended period of time.  Workshops will teach coping methods for stress and anxiety as well as appropriate exercise methods, nutrition, medication usage, and how to communicate with physicians.

Class size is limited to 20 individuals.  A free, 380 page textbook is included.  Participants are expected to attend all six sessions.

Managing Diabetes

A free, six week diabetes workshop will be offered at Anne Arundel Medical Center from 9:30 a.m. – noon on Tuesdays, beginning April 16 and continuing through May at the Health Sciences Pavilion, 7th floor, 2000 Medical Park Driveway, Annapolis, MD.  The class is being sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.  People with pre-diabetes or type 1 or 2 diabetes are eligible.  Participants will learn how to identify problems caused by diabetes, manage their blood sugars and understand the relationship between food and blood-sugar levels.  There will also be instruction on how to read nutrition labels, count carbohydrates, deal with stress and how to improve communication with your physician.

Participants are expected to attend all six sessions and will receive a free textbook. Class size is limited to 20 individuals.
