Baysox Blow Out Senators

BaysoxThe Bowie Baysox (1-1) pounded out 15 runs and 20 hits to beat the Harrisburg Senators (1-1) 15-7 on Friday night.

Xavier Avery equaled a Baysox record with five hits in the game and both Caleb Joseph and Brian Ward knocked in three runs.

In the top of the first inning, the Baysox jumped out to the early lead.  Avery and Ty Kelly started off the game with back-to-back singles.  Joseph then knocked them both in with a two-run double.  Zelous Wheeler followed with an RBI single that gave the Baysox a 3-0 lead.

Harrisburg got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning.  With one out, Josh Johnson walked and Anthony Rendon singled to put two runners on.  Matt Skole then cut the lead to one run with a double that made the score 3-2.

The Baysox got the two runs back in the top of the second inning.  Kyle Hudson led off with a double and Ward reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners at the corners with no one out.  Avery then doubled to knock in Hudson and Kelly hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-2.

In the third inning, the Baysox sent eight players to the plate and added three more runs. With the bases loaded and one out, Brian Ward and Avery hit back-to-back RBI singles.  Then with Lew Ford batting, Hudson scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-2.

Ward tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning with a two-run single that scored Joseph and Aaron Baker and made the score 10-2.

Lew Ford and Joseph hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth inning to give the Baysox an 11-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, Ford hit a two-run double to increase the lead out to 13-2.

The team’s traded runs in the seventh inning and then the Baysox added one more run in the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the ninth the Senators did get four runs, but the Baysox held on for a 15-7 lead

Jake Pettit picked up the win going six innings and allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Blake Treinen got the loss in his Double-A debut allowing eight runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings.

The Baysox home opener is Thursday, April 11. The team starts off the home schedule with a seven game homestand that features a magnet schedule giveaway Thursday, April 11 during a game starting at 7:05 and Pi(e) Night Friday, April 12 in the game starting at 7:05 p.m.
