On April 7, 2013, at approximately 9:09 p.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to a serious motorcycle crash on Veterans Highway near Benfield Boulevard in Millersville.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle crashed after striking a raised cement median/barrier on southbound Veterans Highway prior to Benfield Boulevard. The operator, Robert Wells, 55, of Crownsville was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The motorcycle’s passenger, Kelly Sutton, 41 of Crownsville, sustained severe injuries from the crash and was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma in critical condition. Preliminarily, speed and alcohol use appear to be possible contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
