4 People Displaced After Arnold House Fire. Four people were displaced after an overnight fire at an Arnold home. Crews were called to the 900 block of Phillips Road around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. Although smoke was seen coming from the home, firefighters were able to gain control of the blaze in under 30 minutes. Investigators preliminarily believed the fire was electrical in nature, but the exact cause remains under investigation.

Brooklyn Park Man Arrested After Drug TransactionAnne Arundel County police said they arrested a 48-year-old Brooklyn Park man. Detectives were conducting an undercover operation in Brooklyn Park due to complaints of drug activity around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police said while in the area of 11th Avenue and Victory Avenue, undercover detectives were approached by a man and bought suspected crack cocaine from him.

25K More Students Expected To Matriculate. A new report predicts 25,000 more students will head to a Maryland college or university by 2022 — and that could spell lots of changes. The yearly report released Wednesday by the University System of Maryland tracks the expected student growth in more than a dozen state schools. While the report represents a projection, much can change in the next decade. Even so, this report is key to help the heads of colleges and universities across the state plan for the future, one that’s very much driven by the economy.

Officer Indicted In Trainee Shooting. A Baltimore County grand jury indicted on Wednesday Baltimore City police Officer William S. Kern in a shooting that injured a police recruit trainee, the same day the victim’s attorney said he plans to file a lawsuit against the city police department. The Baltimore County State’s Attorney said the investigation revealed that Kern fired a shot that critically wounded University of Maryland-Baltimore police recruit trainee Raymond Gray during a training exercise at the Rosewood Center in Owings Mills on Feb. 12.
