Meade Commander: 900 Likely To Be Furloughed. The commander at Fort Meade is preparing for the effects of sequestration, and he said he’s not happy with the thought of having to send out furlough notices to hundreds of civilians who work at the Anne Arundel County Army post. Col. Edward Rothstein said the sequestration cuts won’t mean more with less; instead, it’ll just be less with less. Rothstein told 11 News that he fully expects to have to announce those furloughs, and he didn’t hold back on his frustration.

Maryland Senate Passes Gun Control Bill.  A gun-control measure backed by the governor has made it through the state Senate, and supporters said it will make Maryland’s already strong weapons laws some of the toughest in the nation; however, opponents decried the bill as an erosion of Second Amendment rights. The measure, which passed 28 to 19, has a licensing requirement for handgun buyers to submit fingerprints to state police.
