Noted Annapolitan To Lecture On “First Printed Maps” Exhibition At St. John’s College

St. Johns COllegePeter Trogdon, owner and president of Weems & Plath, will give a talk on the exhibition “Envisioning the World: The First Printed Maps 1472-1700” on view from March 1 to April 13 at St. John’s College’s Mitchell Gallery. Trogdon’s lecture will offer insight into the 30 early printed maps from the Wendt Collection featured in the exhibition. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Conversation Room in Mellon Hall on March 5 at 7:30 p.m.

The maps on view in the “First Printed Maps” exhibition reveal changing shifts in historical, religious, and cultural views of the world driven by the desire for accurate cartographic records. In addition, the maps portray Renaissance scholars’ earliest attempts to comprehend the nature of the solar system, the relationship of the planets, and the essential qualities of the Earth.

Trogdon received his MBA from Seattle Pacific University. An avid sailor and power boater, he has sailed the Panama Canal, the European coast, and the Caribbean. Aboard “Bee Weems,” his 36-foot powerboat, Trogdon journeyed from Annapolis to Montreal, Canada by way of the Hudson River and through Alaska’s Inside Passage.
