Galway Bay Awards First Matching Grant For Employee-Sponsored Charitable Giving

DSC_0019Galway Bay owners Anthony Clarke and Michael Galway have awarded the first grant in the company’s new matching grant program. The program awards up to $500 to an employee’s charitable fundraising efforts in matching funds, with the endorsement of 4 other employee team members.

The company’s first grant was awarded to the “Baldtenders”, a team of Galway Bay bartenders, family and friends, who raised money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The team hosted four guest bartending nights at Galway Bay with raffles and tips going toward the fundraising. The  fundraising culminated, March 10th,  with 20 team members, including men and women, shaving their heads, beards, and some even auctioned off their eyebrows and mustaches, at the finale event at Fado in Annapolis, along with dozens of other individuals and teams from across Annapolis. The team collected over $24,000 for the St. Baldrick’s foundation! Donations can still be made up until St Patrick’s Day at the team’s fundraising page http://www.stbaldricks.org/search/Baldtenders.

The team captains were Galway Bay bartender, Aaron “Hoss” Mitchell, and his wife Kelley with support from Galway Bay bartender Christina Doyle and fiancé Carl Henry. Other team members included: Galway Bay server, Tyson Heck; Capital Newspaper columnist, Pat Ferguson; Maryland Legislative Delegate, Bob Costa; and team members/”shavees”  Jim Clark, August Buchheit, Mechelle Kerns, Ian Hillerman, Aaron Burton, Jon Chase, Mark Kent, Ben Grant, Barry Ahern, Kevin Snilloc, Chris Turner, Benjamin Cornwell, Justin Brown, and Jack Stump. Many others helped behind the scenes with marketing, raffle and auction prizes, and guest bartending. This was truly a group effort and was strongly supported by the whole Galway Bay team and the Maryland Avenue community merchants.
