The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce the expansion of its Adopt-a-School education program to the high school level. Through a grant from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, professional ASO musicians will now visit Annapolis High School to mentor and coach students in both band and orchestra programs.
Through the ASO’s Adopt a School program, teams of ASO musicians regularly visit Anne Arundel County middle and elementary schools to assist music teachers by providing individual coaching and instruction to instrumental music students, often preparing them for local competitions. Now, high school music students will enjoy the same opportunity. Beginning this month, members of the ASO string and brass sections will visit Annapolis High school to work directly with the orchestra students and members of the high school band.
The program expansion was made possible by support from The Paul M. Angell Family Foundation. “We are proud to support additional music education in Anne Arundel County, bringing the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra’s outreach into the high school arena,” states Mike Angell.
“Bringing this program to the high school level was a priority for the ASO. We have had enormous success with our elementary and middle school partners and wanted to continue to serve the needs of high school musicians,” notes Katharene Snavely, ASO Executive Director. “The ASO is deeply committed to serving as a proponent of and vehicle for music education in our community. Our partnership with the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation enables us to continue to do this. We are extremely appreciative of their support.”
