Neuman Names Old Business Partner IT Director

nuemanheadshotjpgAnne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today named NASA contractor Richard Durkee as Director of Information Technology.

“Richard Durkee will develop a plan to make this County work smarter through better use of technology,” County Executive Neuman said. “Data is the key to efficiency and measuring results.”

Durkee, a Davidsonville resident, is a contractor providing information technology services and support to NASA headquarters and its mission directorates. He served as chief operating officer for Matrics when County Executive Neuman was chief executive officer. The company was sold for $230 million in 2004. Durkee“I am honored that County Executive Neuman has asked me to serve the public in this way,” Durkee said. “Our goal is to modernize County government and do it in a fiscally responsible way.”

Durkee, 57, has a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University. He is married with three children.

The appointment is effective March 4.
