Meet Fiction Writers At AACC

aacc logoMeet two Maryland writers when they read from their works at the “Writers Reading@AACC” literary arts series this spring at Anne Arundel Community College.

Short fiction writer Andrew Keating of Baltimore will read from his just-published, “Participants,” a collection of stories centering on characters found in the workplace from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in Florestano Room 101. Novelist Susi Wyss of Baltimore will read from “The Civilized World,” a novel in stories set in Africa published in April 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in Humanities Building Room 112. Both buildings are on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.

In addition to being a writer, Keating is an educator living in Baltimore. He has a Master’s of Business Administration and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Publishing Arts from University of Baltimore. Keating founded the literary journal, Cobalt Review, and his work has appeared in Stymie Magazine, Ampersand Review, Eunoia Review, Medulla Review and North Central Review.

Wyss, an editor at Jhpiego, a Baltimore-based international health organization, earned a master’s degree in public health from Boston University before joining the Peace Corps. She spent 16 years visiting more than a dozen countries in Africa before returning to the United States. While continuing to work in international health, she earned a master’s degree in fiction writing from Johns Hopkins University. She combined her experience in international public health with her degree in fiction writing to create stories from Africa for her first book. Her writing has been recognized by awards from the Maryland State Arts Council, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, and the Money for Women/Barbara Deming Memorial Fund.

The sessions are free and sponsored by the AACC Cultural Events Committee. AACC’s Women’s History Month is a co-sponsor of the March 28 reading.
