Johnson, Murder Suspect, Turns Self In

On February 20, 2013 Clarence Eugene Johnson III turned himself into Annapolis police officers.  Johnson was wanted for a homicide that occurred December 12, 2012 in the 1400 block of Tyler Avenue.

At 9:19pm on December 12, 2012 Annapolis police officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of Tyler Avenue for a report of a shooting.  When officers arrived they located Joseph Johnson III, 33, of Brooklyn suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and Jana Jackson, 31, of Annapolis suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.  Joseph Johnson died of his wound at the scene.  Jana Jackson was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma with life threatening injuries.

Clarence Johnson was identified as the suspect by witnesses in the area.  Prior to the shooting Clarence Johnson and Joseph Johnson were involved in a dice game for money.  Clarence Johnson was upset with losing money at the dice game and left the area.  Clarence Johnson returned later, entered the residence, and three gun shots were heard.  Clarence Johnson then left again.  Clarence Johnson and Joseph Johnson are not related.

Clarence Johnson is charged first and second degree murder, first and second degree attempted murder, two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Officers are still investigating the homicide.  Officers are also investigating similar homicides that occurred in the Robinwood and Harbour House communities.  Anyone with information on any of these cases is asked to call Detective Charles Bealefeld at 410-268-9000.
