fatal-accidentAn 18 year-old Crofton teen  died in a car crash yesterday morning in Gambrills.  According to police, Alexis Kari Lewis lost control of her vehicle and spun into the path of an oncoming cement mixer. From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On February 14, 2013, at approximately 7:44 a.m., officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving multiple vehicles on Waugh Chapel Road near Silver Way in Gambrills.

Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles, a 2003 Mack cement truck mixer and a 2001 Chevrolet S-10, that collided on the westbound lane and shoulder. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department arrived on scene and attempted to render aid.  The injuries to the driver of the Chevrolet were extensive. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Traffic Safety Section was notified and assumed primary investigative responsibility for the crash. Further investigation revealed that the Chevrolet was traveling east on Waugh Chapel Road approaching Brander Mill Boulevard when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and began to rotate in a counterclockwise direction.  The vehicle continued to rotate and as it crossed the double yellow pavement striping, ultimately striking the cement mixer, which was traveling west. Both vehicles continued toward the shoulder of the road, finally striking the guardrail. The female driver of the Chevrolet was ejected during the crash and sustained fatal injuries.

Preliminarily, there is evidence to suggest that wet and icy roads may have contributed to this crash. Anyone with further information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
