The Comcast Foundation announced today that it awarded a $20,000 grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County to support “Club Tech,” a comprehensive digital literacy program that provides club members with computer training and other technology skills necessary for school and workplace achievement.
“Club Tech” teaches participants basic computing skills, including Internet safety and the use of various programs and software through hands-on activities and instructor-led workshops. Participants also study the digital arts, such as web design, digital photography, video production and more. The grant provided by the Comcast Foundation will be used to purchase additional hardware and software, and to support additional training in an effort to further expand the program.

“In order to succeed in today’s classrooms and work environments, young people need to become fluent in their digital technology skills,” said Chief Professional Officer Reginald Broddie for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County. “Club Tech helps our members achieve their goals of digital literacy and we are grateful to the Comcast Foundation for its generous support of this program.”
Including the support for “Club Tech,” the Comcast Foundation donated more than $16 million to nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves nationwide in 2012. Since 1999, the Comcast Foundation has donated more than $123 million.
In addition to the grants from the Comcast Foundation, Comcast also responds to community needs through local sponsorships and in-kind support, such as airing public service announcements, employee volunteerism and providing technology equipment and services to organizations across the country. It is estimated that Comcast’s in-kind support exceeded $211 million in 2012.
