Police Charge Father, Daughter In Glen Burnie Murder

Eric Banks

This is an update to a story published yesterday.

On January 27, 2013 at approximately 4:05 a.m., officers from the Northern District responded to the area of Tanyard Cove Road and Marley Neck Boulevard in Glen Burnie for an unknown disturbance.

When officers arrived, they located two suspicious vehicles on a dirt road in that area.  One vehicle, a Ford Explorer, was occupied by 24-year old Tremain Celos Calhoun and 27-year old Erica Tywanda Banks.  The second vehicle, a Ford van, was unoccupied, but a black male identified to be Erica’s father, 47-year old Eric Glenn Banks, was found walking toward the vehicle from a wooded area.

Officers checked the wooded area and located a black male with gunshot and stab wounds.  The male was identified to be Darren Dwayne Bell.  The Anne Arundel County Fire Department pronounced Bell dead at the scene.

All three subjects were taken into custody and the vehicles searched.  A handgun was recovered from the Ford Explorer.  Homicide Unit detectives were called to investigate and interview the three suspects.

Detectives determined Erica Banks and Darren Bell were long time acquaintances and had been involved in an ongoing dispute.  Detectives are still investigating and have not released the reason the four were in the area together.

Based on the investigation and consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office, Eric Banks was charged with first degree murder and Erica Banks and Calhoun charged with possession of a handgun.

Anyone with information should call the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610, Homicide Detective Shelly Rattell at 410-222- 3458 or Metro Crime Stoppers.
