Today, jury selection begins in the John R. Leopold criminal trial in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.  The trial stems from a five count Grand Jury indictment alleging that Leopold used his executive protection detail for personal and political advantages. The prosecution alleges that he used County police officers to escort him to sexual encounters, tear down an opponent’s campaign signs and create dossiers on people he considered political enemies.

In addition to the crimina trial, Leopold also several civil trials revolving around his maintenance of a hostile work environment, the ACLU for the dossiers, and even Carl Snowden. The status of the civil trials, to a great measure, is dependent on the outcome of the criminal trial.

We spoke with a source who has had significant dealings with Leopold while in the House of Delegates as well as the county, and asked how he/she thought this would play out, “Off the record, I wouldn’t bet against Leopold.”

What do you think? Will Leopold be found not-guilty, cop a plea to a lesser charge, have it dismissed, or end up with a guilty verdict?  Take our poll and leave a comment–you can select multiple choices!
