BREAKING: 4 Pedestrians Struck Near Route 100 & Quarterfield

UPDATE 7:47pm 01/10/2013: From the Anne Arundel County Police:

On 01/10/2013, at approximately 1733 hours, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded to the area of Quarterfield Road at the entrance ramp for 100 East for a reported motor vehicle accident involving multiple pedestrians.
 
Officers learned four pedestrians, preliminarily believed to be two adult and two juveniles, were crossing Quarterfield Road, at or near the ramp, when they were struck by a vehicle.  The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene for first-responders.
 
All four victims were transported to area medical centers for treatment.  At least two victims sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
 
The Anne Arundel County Police Department Traffic Safety Section was dispatched to the scene to assume responsibility for the investigation.
 
The investigation remains fluid and active at this time.  No additional information will be released at this time concerning the driver, the vehicle, the pedestrians and/or contributing circumstances of this collision.

UPDATE: From a reader who just passed through the area, it is at the intersection of the Route 100 Westbound exit ramp and Quarterfield Road.

BREAKING: 4 pedestrians have been struck along Route 100 near Quarterfield Road. Details have not been provided by the fire department yet, but all four patients are trauma patients. It was reported that the vehicle was traveling about 40 mph when they were struck.

Route 100 in that area is a divided highway and passes over Quarterfield Road.
