My friend Kathy and I had been to b.b. Bistro before, but both agreed that it had been far too long ago. So, we arranged to meet for lunch on a cool January afternoon. I arrived first, claimed a table and noticed how the sun was brightening and warming up the restaurant through the windows that look out on Annapolis Street in West Annapolis.
I first became acquainted with this wonderful and friendly place a couple of years ago, when the Capital had a Coffee Madness contest. For a period of time, coupons would appear in the paper, matching up coffee shops two at a time, to find the best cup of coffee in Annapolis. b.b. Bistro was in the running. They serve locally roasted coffee and gourmet sweets.
The one-room space consists of colorfully painted walls, hanging pictures, and an array of old-fashioned kitchen tables and chairs. It all feels very comfortable and cozy. There were diners of all ages, ranging from babies in strollers to seniors.
Kathy arrived and immediately started chatting with two friends who work in West Annapolis and can often be found at b.b. Bistro. They happen to be the enthusiastic organizers of the Annapolis Film Festival to be held here in town on March 21 – 24. After a few minutes of discussion about what has been planned, I wanted to be sure to mark my calendar to attend this exciting event!
b.b. Bistro is open Monday – Friday from 8am to 3pm and the breakfast/lunch menu is very appealing! Breakfasts include favorites like oatmeal, yogurt parfait, quiche, and egg sandwiches. Lunches include all types of sandwiches, paninis, salads, and soups. They also have a white board advertising specials and that’s where I found my choice.
I ordered Hawaiian chicken with pepper jack cheese and avocado on a soft taco. It was delicious! The soft taco was more like a wrap and it was toasted perfectly! It came with a very small side dish of quinoa with chickpeas. I say very small, because it was wonderful and it disappeared too quickly! Kathy had a cup of the soup of the day, roasted red pepper and a 7-grain muffin. She was very happy with her choice as well! We both enjoyed our bottomless glasses of iced Alpine berry tea.
b.b. Bistro has been recognized as one of the first restaurants in Annapolis to receive the Environmental Stewardship Certification. I’ve also heard that they have a garden on the property where vegetables are grown for the restaurant. Check it out!
