The Capital is reporting that Carl Snowden has resigned his position as the Director of Civil Rights for Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office. According to The Capital, his resignation is effective 6 years after he took the office. In April of 2012, Snowden took an unpaid leave of absence from his position to wage a legal battle against Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold who is accused of maintaining a political dossier on Snowden.
With five years of service to the State and an resignation (versus a termination), Snowden is eligible to receive a pension.
Snowden has been the focus of several brushes with the law. He has had numerous DUI convictions along with his most recent conviction for possession of marijuana. Snowden was charged by Baltimore City Police when he was discovered in a parked car with a known sex offender and marijuana.
Snowden also serves as the Chairman of the Housing Authority of the City Of Annapolis (HACA) and was appointed by Annapolis Mayor Joshua Cohen. Cohen has professed his confidence in Snowden’s ability to lead the organization despite the conviction–a conviction that would normally get a HACA resident evicted.
Snowden is appealing his marijuana conviction as well as a DUI conviction.
