Harwood Fire Caused $100K In Damage. A fire in Harwood, Anne Arundel County, caused $100,000 worth of damage Thursday night, state fire officials told 11 News. Fire officials said two people were at home in the 800 block of Harwood Road when the flames broke out in the home’s attic. Both people were able to get out safely thanks to working smoke detectors, officials said.

Driver Killed After Car Flies Off I-95 Onto I-195. A crash that started on Interstate 95 and ended on Interstate 195 killed a man and seriously injured another early Thursday morning. Kenneth L. Kirst III, 20, of Joppa, was killed in the crash, according to Maryland State Police. Police identified the second driver as Tristan J. Klein, 37, of Arbutus, saying he was taken to Shock Trauma in stable condition.

Research Activists Seek Probe Of Army Contractor. A research reform advocacy group is asking the Pentagon to investigate an Army contractor that uses animals for combat casualty training. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine filed the complaint Wednesday. It targets SIMMEC Training Solutions of Oceanside, Calif. The Army acknowledges it notified SIMMEC that the company didn’t have a veterinarian present, as required by Army regulations, during a training session involving animals in October 2011. The session was at Fort A.P. Hill near Bowling Green, Va. The Army said the matter was resolved.

Man Wanted In Glen Burnie Robbery.  Anne Arundel County police are looking for a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery. Police said the robbery happened at the Dollar General in the Sun Valley Shopping Center at 7943 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Glen Burnie at 9:20 p.m. Monday. A robber came into the store, brandished a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, police said.
