OMG ‘Legally Blonde’ Coming To CTA

Legally Blonde – The Musical: The Search for E...

OMG, you guys! Elle Woods, her sorority sisters and the halls of Harvard are coming to the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis this January with its production of Legally Blonde: The Musical.

The musical incarnation of the beloved 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Luke Wilson premiered on Broadway in 2007, earning seven Tony Award nominations. It tells the story of strong-willed sorority girl Elle Woods, who follows her college sweetheart – who has just unceremoniously dumped her – to Harvard Law School. After winning an internship with her law professor, she takes on the challenge of defending fitness maven Brooke Wyndham, who has been accused of murdering her husband. Constantly underestimated by everyone around her, Elle – with her pup Bruiser by her side — learns she can stay true to herself, let her intelligence shine through and stay fashionable, all at the same time. The musical’s catchy tunes include “Chip of my Shoulder,” “Positive,” and “Bend and Snap!”
Audiences will be tickled pink by the cast of talented teens, include Broadneck High School sophomore Colleen Coleman of Arnold in the role of Elle Woods; Severna Park High School senior Austin Heemstra of Severna Park as the charming Emmett Forrest; Archbishop Spalding High School junior Emily Freeman of Bowie as Brooke Wyndham; Annapolis Area Christian School junior Zeke Ouellette of Gambrills as the Warner Huntington III; and Broadneck High School junior Maddie Poole of Annapolis, as Warner’s new fiancé and Elle’s nemesis, Vivienne Kensington. Rounding out the cast are Severna Park sophomore Mac Smith of Severna Park as the smarmy Professor Callahan, and Broadneck High School junior Mariel White of Arnold, as Elle’s newfound friend and nail technician, PaulletteBuonofonte. Elle’s dog Bruiser is played by Roxy Shaw, a Yorkie from Annapolis.
The production is directed and choreographed by Jason Kimmell, with musical director Joshua Konick by his side. Kimmell’s talents were last seen in CTA’s production of “Grease: The School Version,” which he choreographed, while CTA alum Konick also music-directed the show in January 2012.
CTA’s production of Legally Blonde: The Musical is an MTI-approved adapted version of the original musical that’s been revised to be more suitable for younger audiences. However, due to mature themes, parental discretion is advised for children under 12.
Tickets are now available for Legally Blonde: The Musical for 7:30 p.m. January 11th, 12th, 19th, and 20th, as well as 2 p.m. January 12th, 13th, 20th, and 21st.
