Maryland State Board Of Education Member To Speak At St. John’s College

St. Johns COllegeDonna Hill Staton, member of the Maryland State Board of Education, will give a keynote address on “Protecting Our Children, Protecting Our Future” as part of a weekend of events honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. at St. John’s College. This event is free and open to the public and will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Saturday, January 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Staton’s long history of involvement with youth development initiatives includes coordinating attorney-mentoring programs with Baltimore City schools, the High School Mock Trial Program, and pro bono legal representation of children in need of assistance. In 2000, she was named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record and has been recognized as a Woman of Achievement in Maryland History. Staton is a former deputy attorney general for Maryland and the first African American judge in HowardCounty.

Schedule for Saturday, January 12:

9-9:30 a.m. – Check-in and refreshments in the Francis Scott Key Lobby.
9:30-10 a.m. – Keynote address by Donna Hill Staton, Maryland State Board of Education, in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium.
10-11:15 a.m. – Panel discussion with area K-12 students and educators in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium. The discussion will be moderated by Ford Rowan, expert in crisis management and conflict resolution.
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Seminars on Dr. King’s “Where Do We Go from Here?” speech. Registration is required. To register: www.stjohnscollege.edu/events410-626-2530.

Schedule for Sunday, January 13:

4 p.m. – Sixth annual “Lift Every Voice” gospel concert, featuring the All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis and the Singing Sensations Youth Choir from Baltimore. Doors open at 3 p.m.
