Summit’s SGA Fills Backpacks For Operation: BuddyPack

The Summit School Student Government Association (SGA), using funds they collected from last month’s car wash and bake sale, bought backpacks and the supplies for The Heart of America Foundation’s Operation: BuddyPack. Three of The Summit School SGA officers, went to Kmart in Edgewater, MD and purchased toiletries, school supplies, and personal items for children that lost most of their possessions during Hurricane Sandy.

Washington, DC’s Heart of America Foundation, founded in 1997, was established to “teach the values at the heart of America and to help people, particularly children, learn that they help themselves when they help others.” In 2005 the foundation began Operation: BuddyPack to help those in need during Hurricane Katrina. They delivered over 40 tons of books and other supplies within 6 weeks. For more information about the Operation: BuddyPack program go to http://www.heartofamerica.org/buddypack/.

This month, Summit students also collected and donated food for the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.
