1000+ Turn Out For Ripley Race. More than a thousand runners turned out in Annapolis for a 5K run to benefit disabled veterans. The fourth annual John Ripley Memorial Race on Sunday morning benefits the Semper Fi Fund. The nonprofit organization provides financial assistance to disabled veterans and their families. Race co-founder Adam Borcz said money raised by the event pays for expenses ranging from mortgage payments to hotel stays and flights.
Man Aboard Sailboat In Severn River Injured. A man aboard a sailboat at the mouth of the Severn River became injured Saturday, prompting a large-scale rescue operation, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Maryland Natural Resources police and Anne Arundel County fire crews converged at about noon to help a 64-year-old man aboard a 22-foot sailboat.
Driver Charged In Brooklyn Park Hit & Run. Anne Arundel County police said they have identified and charged a woman in connection with a hit-and-run in Brooklyn Park. Police charged Robin L. Sears, 54, with failing to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury. Officers were called shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday to Ritchie Highway near Camrose Avenue, where they said a pedestrian was struck by a sport utility vehicle, and the driver left the scene.
County Schools Extend Food Drive After Sandy. Anne Arundel County Public Schools are extending their food drive after Hurricane Sandy closed schools for up to three days earlier this week. The district is hoping the Kids Helping Kids Harvest for the Hungry campaign will get more donations. In the last four years, the county’s public schools have raised nearly $3 million pounds of food for the local food bank, with Lindale Middle School bringing in the second highest total last year.
