North Sails Donates To Help The Chesapeake Bay

| November 03, 2012, 05:04 PM | 0 Comments

During the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, North Sails presented a check to the Chesapeake Bay Trust to fund Bay restoration in Maryland.  This $5,800 donation was the result of a charitable promotion North Sails ran during the summer to encourage sail recycling while also generating funds for the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a nonprofit, grant-making organization committed to Bay restoration and education.

“Our goal with this program was to encourage our customers to recycle their old sails while also provides extra savings for new sails purchased during the summer,” said Mike Coe of North Sails. “Then by donating a percentage of the purchase price to the Chesapeake Bay Trust, we were able to support a cause our customers care deeply about – preserving and protecting the Chesapeake Bay.”

During the months of July and August, North Sails launched a special promotion where the company provided a 20 percent savings on all new sails purchased if customers traded in their old sail. Then North Sails contributed 5 percent of the new sail purchase price to the Chesapeake Bay Trust to advance Bay restoration.  Created in 1985, the Chesapeake Bay Trust has awarded more than $45 million in grants to improve the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through environmental education, community outreach and local watershed restoration.  Just last year in Anne Arundel County alone, the Trust awarded $750,000 to local schools, nonprofits and grassroots organizations to improve water quality, get students outside and green area neighborhoods.

“The Chesapeake Bay Trust is honored to have partnered with North Sails on their summer promotion to give back to local communities and the Chesapeake Bay,” said Molly Alton Mullins, director of communications at the Chesapeake Bay Trust. “At the Trust we take our fiscal role very seriously as 90 cents of every dollar we receive goes directly to support on the ground projects and programs that are making a difference for Marylanders, and for the Chesapeake Bay.”
