Mills Fine Wine And Spirits Changes Hands

A 65-year old Annapolis Main Street institution has changed hands. Mills Fine Wine And Spirit was sold on Friday and the sale was announced this morning by the new owners on Facebook:

Hello Friends,

Mills Fine Wine and Spirits is under new ownership! Local Annapolitans Jerry and Jennifer Donahoe (that’s me) purchased the store on Friday. We are so excited to be a part of the Mills experience with you all. In the short three days we have been in the store we have very much enjoyed meeting many of you, and talking about your favorite products. Everybody has been so kind and gracious. We’d like to meet everyone so next time you come in please say Hello! Cheers!!!

Hillard Donner, the previous owner and his father established the business in 1946 after the War when the elderly owner of Mills Cut Rate Liquors approached Hillard’s father with an offer. The Donners took the up on it and a 65 year icon was born.

In May, Mills Wine And Spirits was awarded an Annapolis’ Main Streets Annapolis Business Legacy Award for being one of a very few businesses who have been operating in Annapolis for more than 50 years.

Donner has been instrumental in the life in Annapolis. From his iconic store on Main Street to the Hospice of the Chesapeake to Anne Arundel Medical Center. His store was known world-wide for his selection of wines and was a “must stop” for thousands of boaters and yachtsmen who visited the City each year.
