Baysox Accepting Nominations, Clothes For Holiday Hope

The Bowie Baysox have announced that Louie’s Holiday Hope Project returns to brighten the holiday season for local families in need this year. Throughout the month of November, the team will be accepting nominations for families that need assistance this holiday season and collecting gently used coats, new socks and other warm clothing to be donated to area families.

The program began in 2007 and touched 21 families with 48 children last year. This year, the team is proud to partner with Prince George’s County Fire/EMS department, the Bowie Police Department and Bowie Youth & Family Services to help as many families as possible.

“We are humbled at how the Louie’s Holiday Hope Project has grown over the past five years,” said Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross. “Louie started with brightening the lives of a couple families to last year touching dozens of families. Our partners and our fans have rallied behind Louie through donations (including toys and warm clothes) and also for finding local families whose holidays we can make a little more enjoyable.”

“Bowie Youth & Family Services is once again pleased to join with the Bowie Baysox in the Sixth Annual 2012 Holiday Hope event,” said Bowie Youth & Family Services Director Nancy Branch. “Louie and the team have created a generous program that assists families in need by providing warm coats and food items during the holiday season. Bowie Youth & Family Services is honored to be selected as a participant.”

“Thanks to help from our fans during the season, Louie’s Holiday Hope Project is already off to a great start this year,” said Baysox Marketing Director Brandan Kaiser. “Through several events held during the season, we have already collected tons of toys to donate to area kids this holiday season and we really appreciate our fans support of this program.”

To ensure that the program reaches as many families as possible, the Baysox welcome help from their fans. Fans can nominate families that need assistance by e-mailing the Baysox mascot Louie at [email protected]. Submissions should include your name and daytime phone number. The team will not be able to help everyone that is nominated, but will consider multiple options to help several families. A Baysox staff member may contact the submitter for additional details or clarification, but all submissions remain confidential. Entries must be received by Friday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m.

Prince George’s Stadium will also serve as a collection point for warm clothes and sock donations in conjunction with Louie’s Holiday Hope. The team invites fans to bring gently used winter coats, new socks and other warm clothing to the Baysox front office during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday, November 30) to donate to local families in need.

The Baysox encourage other local groups and organizations to participate in Louie’s Holiday Hope Project. Local organizations that would like to make a contribution to the program can e-mail Louie at [email protected] or call the front office at (301) 805-6000.
