Annapolis Deploys Two Firefighters To Assist With Storm Recovery In Garrett County

| November 02, 2012, 04:30 PM | 0 Comments

Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen and Annapolis Fire Chief David Stokes announce that two of Annapolis’ firefighters, Scott Keninitz and David Dushkin, were deployed at noon today to help Garrett County residents in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The two were deployed to Garrett County in response to a request received from Maryland Emergency Management Agency.  The mission is to assist in mitigation and recovery efforts.

Both Keninitz and Dushkin are members of Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, known as Maryland Taskforce 2. They are part of the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI); a federal program that identifies certain areas in the country that deal with an increased threat level because of terrorism, large populations, government infrastructure or environmental threat.

As part of USAR, the men specialize in search and rescue operations, trench and collapse rescue and high angle rescues.  Due to the heavy snow in Garrett County, Keninitz and Dushkin will assist in structure evaluations, debris removal and storm mitigation.

The two Annapolis Firefighters are part of the Baltimore Region’s Urban Search and Rescue team.
