2 Critically Injured In Davidsonville Crash

| November 14, 2012, 09:03 AM | 0 Comments

UPDATE 10:14am 11/15/12: From the Anne Arundel County Police Report:

On November 14, 2012, at approximately 7:32 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle striking a tree on Governor Bridge Road near Route 424 in Edgewater.

Officers arrived on scene and located a single vehicle into a tree that was occupied by a female driver and a juvenile male passenger. Fire Department personnel responded and rendered aid to the occupants. Both occupants had potential life threatening injuries and were transported by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center for treatment.

Officers from the Traffic Safety Section were requested and responded to the scene to investigate the crash.  Investigation determined the vehicle was traveling east on Governor Bridge Road when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, began to rotate in a counterclockwise direction and slid sideways off the roadway, striking a fence and ultimately a tree.

Preliminary investigation indicates that speed was a possible contributing factor in this crash. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.  The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or with additional information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Department at 410-222-8610 or the Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.

A teenage boy and a 35 year old female were critically injured this morning after their car crashed into a tree near the intersection of Route 424 and Governor’s Bridge Road in Davidsonville.

The pair were airlifted in two separate helicopters. The female was taken to Washington Medical Center and the son to Washington’s Children’s Hospital.

Details surrounding the accident were not available, but this is one of the most dangerous intersections in the County due to short sight distances, blind spots, and speed on Route 424. During road construction several years ago, a detour required a temporary traffic signal which eased the minds of many motorists and reduced the number of accidents. However, the State removed it once the construction project at Route 424 and Central Avenue was complete.
