The Music Of Cuba Comes To Annapolis

Visiting the United States for the very first time, Schola Cantorum Coralina makes an Annapolis appearance on Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church.  Presented by Live Arts Maryland, J. Ernest Green, Music Director, this concert is part of the St. Anne’s Music Series.

Schola Cantorum Coralina, under the direction of Alina Orraca, is a talented and award-winning group of professional musicians.  Their performances are known around the world as a fun and joyous celebration of Cuba’s rich cultural heritage.  The group’s repertoire includes all genres from different musical eras, from the Renaissance to contemporary music, including sacred, popular, Latin American and world-music.  They also perform folk music from Cuba and other Latin American traditions.

In addition to its many awards from international music festivals, Coralina performed during Pope John Paul II’s 1998 historic visit to Cuba, and was invited on two subsequent occasions to sing at the Vatican.  Coralina is also dedicated to working with children and introducing them to the arts through musical training and art education.  Some of Coralina’s members conduct children’s choir in Havana. They have released six CDs.
