Thanksgiving Essay Contest For Students

The Arc

In honor of Thanksgiving, The Arc Central Chesapeake Region is hosting an essay contest celebrating diversity within our community. Students are asked to answer the following: Knowing people who have different abilities, ideas and cultures helps us to learn compassion, empathy, and grow as human beings. The first Thanksgiving in America brought together two groups of people who were vastly different: the Native Americans and the Pilgrims. For this contest please write about the following. How have those who are different from you helped you grow and learn? Why are you thankful for the opportunity to know them?

Essays are due November 9th and can be submitted online at http://tinyurl.com/9bf78bo. A panel of two will judge the essays for one winner in each of the following categories: elementary school, middle school, and high school. Winners will be announced via The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s Facebook page on November 14th. Winning essays will be published in the Thanksgiving edition of The Capital.

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s mission is to promote respect, create opportunities and advocate for equal rights for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
