Rare, Deadly Form Of Meningitis Found In Maryland. One of two Marylanders who developed meningitis from a spinal injection has died, health officials announced Wednesday, saying at least 26 people in five states have been sickened nationwide. Those affected by the outbreak of a rare and deadly form of meningitis received steroid injections, mostly for back pain. Four people have died — including one in Maryland — and more cases are expected.

Comptroller’s Office Warns Of Email Scam.  The Maryland Comptroller’s Office is warning of a computer scam that they said pretends to come from the office and blocks users’ computers in an effort to get people’s money. The Comptroller’s Office said it received its first complaints on Wednesday. “The person contacted us to say their computer locked up, and the email demanded payment to be sent to the Comptroller’s Office in order for their computer to be unlocked,” said office representative Caron Brace.

Oriole’s Postseason Making Fans, Businesses Antsy. From hotel rooms to beer, many Maryland businesses have all but waited in limbo as the Baltimore Orioles make a magical ride into the postseason. After losing the last regular season game Wednesday to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Orioles traveled to Arlington, Texas, where they’ll face the Rangers for a one-game wild card playoff Friday. The winner will faceoff against the New York Yankees for the American League Division Series, which would start Sunday.

Police Put Out Warning After Craigslist Robberies.  Baltimore police are warning people to be cautious when using Craigslist after two armed robberies were reported by people who said they had been lured via the website to the Bolton Hill area to buy vehicles. Both incidents have occurred since Sunday. In each case, detectives said the victim contacted the alleged seller via Internet or phone, and the victims were instructed to bring cash.
