Would-Be Robber Leaves Store Empty Handed.  Anne Arundel County police are looking for a man in connection with an attempted armed robbery. Police were called at about 1 a.m. Saturday to Xtra Mart Fuel at 3080 Solomons Island Road, where, investigators said, an armed man brandished a knife and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk was unable to comply with the suspect’s demand.

Middle School Grad Is 6th In Family To Earn Straight A’s. An Anne Arundel County family seems to have almost single-handedly held up the long-term grade-point average of a Glen Burnie Middle School for the past two decades. For 19 years, all six children in the Kogut family have maintained a streak of straight A’s at Marley Middle School. The streak was completed Thursday, as eighth-grader Richie Kogut completed his academic year. The family said execution of the fundamentals is key to their academic success.

Car Crashes Into Joy Of Learning Center.  A Baltimore County child care center is closed on Monday after a car crashed through the side of its building over the weekend. No one was inside at the time of the accident. It happened Saturday afternoon at the Joy of Learning Center near Dogwood Road in Woodlawn.

Homestead Tax Credit Deadline Looming.  Time is running out for homeowners to apply for continued Homestead Tax Credit benefits. The tax credit is one all Maryland homeowners are required to apply for in order to receive help from the state for those annually spiking tax bills. City officials want to make sure everyone is aware the deadline to apply for the credit is Dec. 31. Homeowners who have been receiving the Homestead Tax Credit will have to reapply to keep the state and city caps applied to annual property taxes.
