Police Release Statement, Identify Victim On Brooklyn Park Homicide

On October 5, 2012, at approximately 9:02 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to the 6000-block of Ritchie Highway in Brooklyn Park for a reported assault.

Upon arrival, officers located 50-year old Nick Gilbert Gartelman Sr. in medical distress.  CPR and medical aid was rendered by officers then by Fire Department personnel. Gartelman was transported by Fire Department personnel to Harbor Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The cause of the death has not yet been determined.  The investigation is being handled by the Homicide Unit.

Preliminary investigation has indicated the victim was involved in a physical altercation with a white male prior to officers’ arrival.  Detectives do not believe this to be a random act and are continuing to investigate.
