October Is Squash Month At Roundz

October is all about squash. Texture, taste and appearance- squash is all that. Chef Zachary Pope of Roundz Gourmet Market (2299 Johns Hopkins Rd., Gambrills) has plans to make the most of this season’s squash bonanza with the following events:

October 9 –Tuesday, 7:30 PM- Cooking Class – “Squash, Anyone?”

Chef Pope will guide students in putting a gourmet twist on this seasonal favorite. Roundz cooking classes are a 2-hour, hands-on event culminating in dining. The $60 class fee is all-inclusive and includes a written curriculum for take-home reference. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Market at 443.292.4631. October 12 – Friday, 7:30 PM – Roundz After Dark – “Celebrate Squash”

Roundz After Dark is a gourmet dining experience like no other. Once a month, Chef Pope and staff transform the dining area at Roundz Gourmet Market into an intimate bistro where guests can watch the preparation of high-end culinary creations while enjoying live music. In October, Chefs Pope and Brown will offer a squash-themed, 6-course menu for guests’ dining pleasure. Live music provided by local pianist and composer Ralph Manuel. $80 per person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Market at 443.292.4631.

October 20 – Saturday, 11:30 am to 3 pm- Roundz Fall Festival – “Perfect Pumpkins Are Roundz!”

Get your pumpkin on at our first-ever pumpkin carving contest Saturday, October 20, from 11:30 am to 3 pm. Prizes awarded for “Best Culinary Inspired Pumpkin” and, of course, “Scariest Pumpkin.” Winners will receive Roundz gift certificates and merchandise. Also that day, enjoy a myriad of menu items featuring locally grown squash and try your hand at carnival-style games with a gastronomic twist. Potato Tong Toss, anyone? Great family fun…with prizes!

October 31 – Wednesday –Happy Halloween!

Stop by Roundz for a spooky treats, such as the limited edition Roundz Worms & Dirt- $1.50. Not to be missed!

Chef’s Table– Each Thursday in November at 6:30 p.m. Chef Pope will personally prepare a 4-course custom meal inspired by what is fresh that day for one table of diners – $50 per person. Reservations required. 443.292.4631

Roundz Thanksgiving– Let us prepare your family feast. This year Roundz is offering mini-turduckens (turkey breast, duck breast and chicken sausage- feeds 10-15 people) with a variety of seasonal sides, such as: Spiced Apples, Cornbread Sage Stuffing, Cranberry Orange Relish & Sweet Potatoes with Apricots & Pecans. Place your orders before Nov. 19 for pickup Nov. 21.
