| October 12, 2012, 10:44 AM | 0 Comments

On Wednesday, the United States Naval Academy presented a Salute to the City of Annapolis with a Brigade of Midshipmen Dress Parade.

Parades and military drill are part of the professional training program directed by the Commandant Midshipmen. In addition to a world-class education, all midshipmen receive more than ,2000 hours of education and training in physical fitness, leadership, seamanship, navigation and other elements of naval science.

Dress parades are also part of the color competition among the Brigade’s 30 companies. The winning company is selected after each semester based on parades and other professional activities, athletics and extracurricular activities, and is honored during Commissioning Week.

The current color company is the 24th Company, whose  guidon is decorated with a blue border.

Today the US Naval Academy celebrates the 237th birthday of the U.S. Navy. The Navy was established by the Continental Congress on October 13, 1775. The Brigade of Midshipman honors our great heritage by presenting a formal pass in review to all Naval officials present.

In recognition of the good neighbor relationship between the Brigade of Midshipman  and the City of Annapolis and its residents, the US Naval Academy salutes the City of Annapolis with a formal parade on Worden Field.  This year, the distinguished reviewers were the Honorable Martin O’Malley, Governor of Maryland; Admiral Kirkland H. Donald, USN; and the Honorable Joshua J. Cohen, Mayor of the City of Annapolis.
