The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) at the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities held a “Carnival Recognition” on Friday, Sept. 14, at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park.
The county’s more than 50 Foster Grandparents were among the volunteers who serve in more than 300 FGP projects sponsored and managed by local non-profit agencies and government in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
During a time of increased need and limited resources, volunteers are stepping in to fill the gaps. Last year, 29,100 FG volunteers served as tutors and mentors to more than 232,200 children with identified needs at the national level as an initiative to the President’s call, “United We Serve.”
More than 54,357 volunteers hours were reported last year in Anne Arundel County, says Kristin Plumer, program director.
