Man Pleads Guilty To Attacking Mother With Hammer.  A 34-year-old man pleaded guilty to repeatedly striking his mother in the head with a hammer because he was afraid she would tell police he had misused her credit card. Robert Benscoter pleaded guilty on Thursday to attempted second-degree murder. He faces up to 12 years in prison at sentencing Dec. 18.

3 Arrested After Odenton Drug FightAnne Arundel County police arrested three people Friday night after an apparent fight over drugs. County police first received a call at about 9:50 p.m. for some sort of disturbance at the Royal Inn on Annapolis Road in Odenton. Upon arrival, people at the scene pointed officers to a sport utility vehicle leaving the scene.

Anne Arundel County Police To Conduct DUI Checkpoints. The Anne Arundel County Police Department will be conducting increased DUI enforcement operations beginning Sept. 28. Chief of Police Col. Larry W. Tolliver made the announcement Friday. Authorities said they will conduct a DUI checkpoint in the northern part of Anne Arundel County during the evening of Sept. 28. The Department’s 93rd checkpoint will be conducted along Ritchie Highway near 11th Avenue and Townsend Avenue in Brooklyn Park.

1 Shot, Several Arrested After Mob Gets Out Of Control In Towson. One person was shot and at least six were arrested late Saturday night during a mob-like scene outside the Recher Theater in Towson as Towson University students were celebrating their homecoming weekend. Witnesses said there were close to 1,000 people in the street at one point late Saturday night. One of those witnesses said police had to use dogs and block off parts of York Road to traffic as they worked to get the crowd under control.
