Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Music Director, José-Luis Novo and Bay Theatre Artistic Director, Janet Luby will speak at an Annapolis Arts Alliance event at 4:00 p.m. at the Key School in Annapolis on Sunday, October 14.

The program, “Behind the Scenes: Annapolis Symphony and Theater,” will give us an inside view of what goes on before the performances of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra and Bay Theatre. The program, sponsored by the Education Committee of the Annapolis Arts Alliance and subsidized with a grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County welcomes families as well as adults to hear from this dynamic duo of outstanding artists.

”This program will offer new perspectives both for artists and art lovers, including students—an enriching experience for all,” said Natalie Lobe, AAA Board member, and coordinator of the event

One of Spain’s most promising young conductors, José-Luis Novo has served as Music Director and Conductor of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra since 2005. Before that Maestro Novo was the Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. As a violinist, he has appeared in concerts and recitals throughout Europe and the United States. He is the recipient of a 2010 Annie Award in Performing Arts from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, a 2008 ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award, and a 2005 Broome County Arts Council Heart of the Arts Award.

Professional actress, Janet Luby, co-founder and Artistic Director of Bay Theater Company has served as the Artistic Director for the last two years and co-director for the previous ten years. The Bay Theatre Company is a professional Equity theatre located in the heart of the Arts District in Annapolis. Since its inception in 2001 it has achieved significant acclaim. Under Ms. Luby, during the 2011-2012 season, all four plays received ‘Helen Hayes Award Recommendations’. These awards are the highest accolades any theatre can attain in the Washington, DC area. Janet has appeared in numerous roles at Bay Theater, beginning with Beyond Therapy in makeshift quarters and most recently as Becky, in Becky’s New Car. One of her more memorable roles was in Sylvia as the title character Sylvia the dog. Before coming to Annapolis she worked in theater in San Francisco and New York. As a member of AEA, AFTRA, SAG and AGMA she has worked in many aspects of the industry. Joining the ranks of noted area performers Ms Luby will receive the prestigious 2012 Annie Award for the Performing Arts this October.

A reception and light refreshments will follow the presentations and discussion. Admission is $5.00 for adults; students are admitted free. For more information, contact Natalie Lobe at 410-263-1947, or [email protected].
